I encountered the same stress when I opened my Facebook today and automatically directs me to its new update of inbox and chat bar. Since there is no other way to cancel its update, I then decided to continue and look for a solution after.

2. restart firefox.
3. Go to http://userscripts.org/scripts​/show/107159 (click "Install" located on top, right side)
4. refresh FB.

For Google Chrome:
1. install http://userscripts.org/scripts​/show/107159 (click "Install" located on top, right side)
2. refresh FB.
